Meet our Educators!

 

Principal - Mrs. Sara Hooley

Mrs. Hooley has a BS in Education from the University of Missouri-Columbia and is currently working on her Masters of Education Degree from Northwest Missouri State University. She has 18 years of teaching experience, all at Holy Family School! She grew up in Hannibal, and attended Holy Family School as a student. Mrs. Hooley is looking forward to being the principal of Holy Family School and continuing the legacy and traditions of Catholic education.

Mrs. Hooley says, "I love working at Holy Family School because we are able to talk and teach about God in everything we do."

Mrs. Hooley is married to Chris, and her hobbies include reading and spending time with her family.


Preschool - Mrs. Juliana Sheffer

Mrs. Sheffer has degrees in Elementary Education from Brescia College and Western Kentucky University. She has 19 years of teaching experience, 9 of those years teaching preschool at Holy Family School.

Mrs. Sheffer says, "I love teaching at a Catholic school because I can share my faith with the children. In many ways, working at Holy Family is a calling and a mission"

Mrs. Sheffer, her husband John have lived in Hannibal since 2001. They have four children and two grandchildren. She enjoys playing guitar for Mass on the weekends, and likes going out to dinner with her husband in her free time.


Kindergarten - Mrs. Kaila Scott

Mrs. Scott has a degree in Elementary and Early Childhood Education from Culver-Stockton College. This will be her fourth year teaching at Holy Family!

Mrs. Scott says, "I love teaching at a Catholic school because it gives me a chance to share my faith with my students and build a strong spiritual classroom community."

Mrs. Scott loves spending time with her husband, 3 boys, and family. They love to get together to cook, laugh, play board games, and watch movies!


1st Grade - Mrs. Denise Dodd

Mrs. Dodd earned her Education degrees from Western Illinois University and William Wood University. She began teaching at Holy Family School in 1995.

Mrs. Dodd says, "I enjoy teaching at Holy Family School because my Catholic faith is a part of every day and I am able to share it with my students."

Mrs. Dodd is married, and has 2 children. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, cooking, yoga, spending time with family and the occasional weekend getaway.


2nd Grade - Mrs. Becky Thomas

Mrs. Thomas earned her degree from Missouri State University. She previously taught at St. John’s Lutheran and this is her first year at Holy Family School.

Mrs. Thomas says, “Being able to share my love of God and my Catholic faith with my students is one way to help build up the kingdom of God. Our school truly lives out our motto of “Holy Family it’s not just our name, but it is who we are.” We are all one family striving to deepen our relationship with Christ.”

Mrs. Thomas lives with her husband, Joe and four children. Three of them have graduated from Holy Family and one is currently a 7th grader. She enjoys reading, watching her children play sports, and playing outside whenever she is able.


3rd Grade - Mrs. Lynn Hillman

Mrs. Hillman has a Bachelor’s degree from Hannibal-LaGrange University and a Master’s degree from Southwest Baptist University. She is in her 31st year of teaching, her first at Holy Family.

Mrs. Hillman says. “I am looking forward to meeting all the students and staff at Holy Family, especially my third graders. I am excited to integrate my faith into my classroom each and every day.”

Mrs. Hillman lives in Palmyra with her husband, Kevin, and “bonus” child, Jacan. She has a grown daughter, Taylor, who is also an educator. She enjoys traveling, running, and Kansas City Chief football.


4th Grade - Mrs. Patti Babyak

Mrs. Babyak has Marketing and Education degrees from Missouri State University and Augusta State University. She has 21 years of teaching experience, and all but two of those years have been teaching in Catholic schools. She is beginning her fifth year at Holy Family School.

Mrs. Babyak says, "I love teaching in a Catholic school, especially at Holy Family because it is very family oriented, and you can bring God and Jesus into all the subjects."

Mrs. Babyak has been married to her husband Brent for 35 years, and they have 2 grown children - Meagan and Drew. She loves traveling and seeing new things, most of all going to visit her children!


5th Grade - Ms. Cherrie Allen

Ms. Allen has a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education with an Emphasis in Learning Disabilities from Southeast Missouri State University and a Master’s Degree in Education Administration from William Woods University. She has 21 years teaching experience, 10 of those being at Holy Family School.

Ms. Allen says, "At Holy Family School, it always feels like we are a family that supports one another."

Ms. Allen enjoys spending time with her beautiful children, Caleb, Cody, and Madison, in her spare time.


6th Grade - Mrs. Karen Wetton

Mrs. Wetton received her Bachelor of Journalism from the University of Missouri. She is also a proud graduate of Holy Family School, although it was called Hannibal Catholic in 1984!

Mrs. Wetton is married to Stephen and has 3 children. She loves football, baking, and being a member of Holy Family parish.

“I am proud to be teaching not only at the school that I attended, but also at the school my children and my brother and sister attended as well. Holy Family School definitely runs in our family.”


7th Grade - Mrs. Melissa Flaspohler

Mrs. Flaspohler has an Education degree from Central Methodist University. She has 17 years experience teaching, with 14 spent at Holy Family School.

Mrs. Flaspohler is the 6th-8th grade Math and Science Teacher.

Mrs. Flaspohler has been married to her husband Michael for 25 years and has 2 grown sons who both graduated from Holy Family School. She loves cooking, the outdoors, and spending time with her family, including her yellow labrador retriever. .

Mrs. Flaspohler says, "I love teaching at Holy Family because we are truly a family here united in our Catholic faith. Watching the students learn and grow over the years is extremely rewarding."


8th Grade - Mrs. Melissa Millan

Mrs. Millan has degrees from University of Missouri-Columbia, University of Missouri-St.Louis and William Woods University. Mrs. Millan served as a teacher and administrator in the Archdiocese of St. Louis for 7 years before she and her husband, Jim, moved their family to Hannibal in 1998. She joined the Holy Family School staff in 1999. Mrs. Millan has taught 5th - 8th grades at Holy Family and served as the school administrator for 9 years.

Mrs. Milllan is the 6th-8th grade Social Studies and Religion teacher.

Mrs. Millian says, "I love teaching at a Catholic school because you really get to know the students and families. We work with every aspect of a child's development, especially the spiritual aspect."


Specialty Educators

8th Grade, Algebra 1 - Mrs. Jeanne Mack

Mrs. Mack has a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, emphasis on mathematics, and a Master’s Degree in mathematics education, both from Truman. She has taught in public schools in both Missouri and Illinois and as adjunct professors for both Hannibal Lagrange University and MACC. Mrs.Mack’s husband was principal of Stowell Elementary. Her daughter teaches PE at Oakwood Elementary and her son-in-law is an assistant principal at Hannibal Middle School and the head boy’s basketball coach. She has a son who is a contractor at the Lake of the Ozarks. She has three grandchildren. Mrs. Mack says, “I am happy to be here at Holy Family. It is a great atmosphere for students and staff. It is wonderful that a school can address the fact that a student’s growth and education is more than just academics.”. __

Art - Ms. Shelly Lowe

Ms. Lowe earned her degree at Hannibal-La Grange University, and has been teaching at Holy Family since 2003. She loves teaching art because ART makes kids smART!

Ms. Lowe says, "Jesus is in every school - public and parochial. However, in a Catholic school, He is visible! We talk about Him and to Him - out loud!

Ms. Lowe especially loves teaching at Holy Family because "here, we are a family."


Music - Mrs. Linda St. Juliana

Mrs. St. Juliana has Music Education and Teaching Certificates from Northern Michigan University with a Bachelor of Arts, Central Michigan University, and Lindenwood University with a Masters in Education. She has taught music for over 38 years, retired from the public schools, and this is her fourth year back at Holy Family School.

Mrs. St. Juliana says, "I love teaching at a Catholic school because you can see the proof of the spirit of Christianity each and every day."

Mrs. St. Juliana, her husband Gregory and their children are active members of Holy Family Church. She is involved with music liturgies with the Church, enjoys teaching private piano students, knitting, and caring for her grandchildren.


Physical Education - Mr. Ken Hess

Mr. Hess has degrees from Truman University and Hannibal-La Grange University. He is a former student of Holy Family school, and has 10 years of teaching experience.

Mr. Hess says, "I really love the family atmosphere (at a Catholic school), how everyone knows each other and everyone is involved in the school.

Mr. Hess and his wife, Ceann, have 4 children, 3 grandchildren, with a fourth on the way. His hobbies include sports, hunting and fishing and spending his summers on the lake boating and jet skiing. School Support Staff
