Meet the Staff!

Meet our Educators

Preschool - Mrs. Juliana Sheffer


Mrs. Sheffer has degrees in Elementary Education from Brescia College and Western Kentucky University. She has 16 years of teaching experience, 6 of those years at Holy Famliy School. 

Mrs. Sheffer says, "I love teaching at a Catholic school becuase I can share my faith with the children. In many ways, working at Holy Family is a calling and a mission"

Mrs. Sheffer, her husband John and their 4 children have lived in Hannibal since 2001. She enjoys playing guitar for Mass on the weekends, and likes going out to dinner with her husband in her free time.

Kindergarten  - Mrs. Kaila Scott

Mrs. Scott has a degree in Elementary and Early Childhood Education from Culver-Stockton College. This will be her first year teaching at Holy Family!

Mrs. Scott says, "I love teaching at a Catholic school because it gives me a chance to share my faith with my studetns and bulid a strong spiritual classrooom community."

Mrs. Scott loves spending time with her husband and family. They often get together to cook, laugh and enjoy Cowboy's football games on the weekends.

1st Grade - Mrs. Denise Dodd

Mrs. Dodd earned her Education degrees from Western Illinois University and William Wood University. She began teaching at Holy Family School in 1995. 

Mrs. Dodd says, "I enjoy teaching at Holy Family School because my Catholic faith is a part of every day and I am able to share it with my students."

Mrs. Dodd is married, and has 2 children. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, cooking, yoga, spending time with family and the occasional weekend getaway.

2nd Grade - Mrs. Sara Hooley

Mrs. Hooley has a BS in Education from University of Missouri-Columbia. She has 16 years of teaching experience, all at Holy Family School! She grew up in Hannibal, and attended Holy Family School as a student. 

Mrs. Hooley says, "I love preparing the second graders for the Sacrament of Reconciliation and the Sacrament of Eucharist. I also love getting to talk and teach about God in everything we do."

Mrs. Hooley is married to Chris, and her hobbies include reading, learning to golf and decorating her classroom and home.

3rd Grade - Mrs. Elaine Booher

Mrs. Booher has earned education degrees from Hannibal-La Grange University and NMSU. She has 42 years of teaching experience, all at Holy Family School!

Mrs. Booher says what she loves about teaching at a Catholic school is "Being able to teach about God, and the feeling of family." 

Mrs. Booher is married, has 2 children and 4 grandchildren. She loves the feeling of family, and the support and caring from the faculty and staff at Holy Family School.

4th Grade - Mrs. Patti Babyak

Mrs. Babyak has Marketing and Education degrees from Missouri State University and Augusta State University. She has 19 years of teaching experience, and she is beginning her second year at Holy Family School.

Mrs. Babyak says, "I love teaching in a Catholic school because it is very family oriented, and you can bring God and Jesus into all the subjects."

Mrs. Babyak has been married to her husband Brent for 32 years, and they have 2 children - Meagan and Drew. She loves traveling and seeing new things, most of all going to visit wtih her children!

5th Grade - Ms. Cherrie Allen

Ms. Allen has Education and Administration degrees from Southeast Missouri State Univestiy and William Woods University. She has 18 years teaching experience, 7 of those being at Holy Family School. 

Ms. Allen says, "At Holy Family School, it always feels like we are a family that supports one another."

Ms. Allen enjoys spending time with her beautiful family in her spare time.

6th Grade - Mrs. Karen Wetton

Mrs. Wetton received her Bachelor of Journalism from the University of Missouri and has completed work towards her Master’s in Communications from Missouri State.  She has been a substitute teacher for 7 years.  This is her first year teaching full time at Holy Family.
 
Mrs. Wetton says that she is grateful to teach at her old elementary school.  She graduated from Hannibal Catholic in 1984.  
 
Mrs. Wetton is married to Stephen and has 3 children.  She loves football, baking, and being a member of Holy Family.

7th Grade - Mrs. Melissa Flaspohler

Mrs. Flaspohler studies at Central Methodist University. She has 14 years teaching experience, 11 at Holy Family School. 

Mrs. Flaspohler is the 6th-8th grade Math and Science Teacher. 

Mrs. Flaspohler says, "I love teaching at Holy Family because we are truly a family here. Watching the students learn and grow over th eyears is extremely rewarding."

8th Grade - Mrs. Melissa Millan

Mrs. Milllan has degrees from University of Missouri-Columbia, University of Missouri-Saint Louis and William Woods Univeristy. She has 26 years experience teaching, 19 spent at Holy Family.

Mrs. Milllan is the 6th-8th grade Social Studies and Religion Teacher. 

Mrs. Millian says, "I love teaching at a Catholic school because you really get to know the students and families. We work with every aspect of a child's development, especially spiritual (development)."



Specialty Educators

8th Grade, Algebra 1 - Mr. Mervin Sharkey

Mr. Sharkey has degrees from Northeast Missouri State University and Truman University. He has 51 years teaching experience, 18 years at Holy Family School. 

Mr. Sharkey says, "Holy Family is just like one big family. The faculty is very helpful when needed... the students have a desire to learn and are enjoyable to have in class."

Mr. Sharkey has 3 children, 3 grandchildren and 4 step-grandchildren. He enjoys walking with his siters, running races, gardening and taking students to math contests.

Art - Ms. Shelly Lowe

Ms. Lowe earned her degree at Hannibal-La Grange University, and has been teaching at Holy Family since 2003.

Ms. Lowe says, "Jesus is in every school - public and parochial. However, in a Catholic school, He is visible! We talk about Him and to Him - out loud!

Ms. Lowe especially loves teaching at Holy Family because "here, we are a family."

Music - Mrs. Linda St. Juliana

Mrs. St. Juliana has Music Education and Teaching Certificates from Northern Michigan University, Central Michigan University. and Lindenwood University. She has taught music for over 34 years, and this is her first year back at Holy Family School.

Mrs. St. Juliana says, "I love teaching at a Catholic school because you can see the proof of the spirit of Christianity each and every day."

Mrs. St. Juliana, her husband Gregory and their children are active memebrs of Holy Family Church. She is involved with music litergies with the Church, enjoys teaching private piano students, knitting, and caring for her grandchildren.

Physical Education - Mr. Ken Hess

Mr. Hess has degrees from Truman University and Hannibal-La Grange University. He is a former student of Holy Family school, and has 7 years of teaching experience. 

Mr. Hess says, "I really love the family atmosphere (at a Catholic school), how everyone knows each other and everyone is involved in the school. 

Mr. Hess and his wife, Ceann, have 4 children, one still enrolled at Holy Family, and 2 grandchildren, with a third on the way. His hobbies include sports, hunting and fishing and spending his summers on the lake boating and jet skiing.
